Event Description

Free | RSVP essential

Continuing our tradition of behind-the-scene peeks at our collection, come along to this textiles focused tour. Head back of house into our Collection Store, where Collections Manager Jo Wehrly will show some of the gems of The Dowse textiles collection, and how they are cared for and stored. Then head into Softy, where Maungarongo Te Kawa will speak to the works on display, including his own stunning piece, Hīnātore (2021).

Matua Ron has been creating joyful clothing and art for over 40 years. His very first exhibition, Bitter and Twisted (1992), was held in The Dowse. His quilt Hīnātore is currently featured upstairs in Softy — a beautiful continuation of his creative journey with the gallery.
