Event Description
Join Petone Community House as we come together to celebrate and uplift Matariki and Puanga.
Led by local kaumātua and kuia, and supported by the community-led te reo Māori group Pua Te Kōwhai, this special morning will include traditional kōrero, karakia, waiata and shared kai.
The celebration begins at 7am with a free outdoor dawn ceremony behind the House, followed by kai from 8am to 9am.
In the lead up to the celebration, Petone Community House will also host free presentations sharing knowledge about Matariki, including the karakia and waiata that will be used during the dawn ceremony. Presentation dates are:
• Monday 15 June, 3pm
• Monday 15 June, 6pm
• Thursday 18 June, 6pm
Come along to learn, connect and celebrate Matariki with your community. Everyone is welcome.
